Inaugurated under the Joint Stock Companies Act, 1870. CAPITAL £3,000, IN 1000 SHARES OF £3 EACH. Payable: £1 on' application for Shares, and the remaining £2, if required, at 10s per share, and at intervals not less than six months from each call. Directors : Mr Joseph Masters, Dr Boor, Mr H. Bannister. Manager : Mr S. Rikys. Agents, Wellington : Messrs Levin & Co. Solicitors : Messrs Izard & Pharazyn. Bankers : Union Bank cf Australia. Masterton, 21st February, 1871. The object of this Company is to carry out Mr Eiky's process for dressing the New Zealand Flax ; and at the same time to manufacture woolpacks, sorim cloth, and other niaterialp. The flax produced by this process, which is very inexpensive, i 3 of such a quality that samples sent to London by Messrs Levin & Co., although but half dressed, have been valued at £32 per ton (not inoluding the tow) the brokers saying at the same lime that such flax would command a large demand. But a superior quality has been produced since at the mill already erected by Mr Rikys at Masterton, a specimen of which can be seen at Messrs Levin & Co.'t office, and such flax will doubtless fetch a higher price in the London market. The following certificate relative to the flax prepared by the above process has been given in London by the well-known firm, Messrs Noble & Co., viz. : — " London, 17th June, 1869. " Gentlemen, — After carefully examining the samples of New Zealand Flax shown to the writer at your office, we consider the improvement in value effected by Mr Rikys' process on the sample we gave him equal to £10 per ton. We are ignorant of the cost per ton of working this process, but would suggest that it should be carried out at the place of growth. i " Th«j parcel of flax from which we gave sampleß we sold at £22 per ton. " We are, Gentlemen, &c, " (Signed) G. & A. Noble." Dr Hector, and also Mr Kebbell, Flax Commissioner, have expressed a high opinion of the flax prepared by the said process. According to present calculations the cost of such flax will not exceed £22 to £24 per ton, delivered in London, so that there will bo a large margin for profit, even supposing that not more than £32 per ton should be obtained for it. The Directors have the pleasure to say that such is Mr Rikys' confidence in the said process that, instead of asking a bonus for it from the Company, he has agreed to accept 25 per cent, out of the nett profits of the Company, retaining to himself the right to grant licenses for the use of his patent. The mill erected at Masterton, with the plant and other things attached to it, will become the property of the Company, who will have to pay to Mr Rikys the actual cost of it only. A better situation could not have been selected by Mr Rikys for the erection of a flax mill. A fine stream, with abundance of water all the year round, runs close by it ; it is surrounded by excellent flax, and at a distance of a few yards there is the bush, which will supply the mill with firewood at a small experse. Nothing will be spared by the Directors, and particularly by the Manager, to promote the good result of this Company, which they do not hesitate to recommend to the public as , a safe and good investment. Applications for shares, of which a large number have been already taken up, can be i made at I Messrs LEVIN & CO., or Mr S. EIKYS, ! Wellington, i Mr HENRY BANNISTER, Masterton. Mr A. K. ARNOT, & Mr M. HIRSCHBERG, Groytown. THE UNDERSIGNED is a Cash Purchaser of Wool. i W. WARING TAYLOR. Wellington, let Feb., 1871. > . . — mHE undersigned are buyers of WEANED ; i CALVES and YOUNG STORE CATTLE BETHUNE & HUNTER. November 28, 1870.
