The native recently wounded at Pirongia was Taraati Tokinna, one of Arinitage's murderers, in 1863. Waata Taki has broken into the Mission House at. Aotea, but allowed the removal of Rev. Mr Schnackenburg's books. An inquest on the fire of the City of Auckland has been held, and an open verdict returned. . Considerable excitement still exists in the share market, but it is scarcely warranted. , Christchurch, Monday. An inquest has been held on the body of a woman named M'Leod, who was stabbed by her husband a few days ago. The evidence went to show that the husband was jealous. A verdict of " wilful murder" was returned. Dunedin, Monday. At the Mount Ida election Macassey polled 79; Pratt, 09; Mervyn, 217; Hertslett and Bremer retired in favor of Mervyn through the influence of Laughton. Bishop Moran was welcomed by the various "congregations of the province, and was presented with addresses. He complains bitterly of the misrepresentation by the press of the Ecumenical Council. The Synod closed on Saturday. The next session will be held in Wellington. 7.25 p.m. — Macandrew, 2255 ; Reid, 1447. 8 p.m. — Macandrew, 2321; Reid, 1726. Bluff, Monday. The result of the poll at Campbelltown for the election of Superintendent was Macandrew 28 ; JReid, nil. Inveroahgill, Monday. The polling for the Superintendency has caused great excitement. The return is— Macandrew, 882 ; Reid, 99.
