The " Daily Times" of Feb. 9 reports : — The business of the past few days has presented nothing remarkable, the import markets atill wearing a very dull appearance, and few transactions of any importance going on, except in the auction marts, whero there havo been several aaleß of more or leas importance. A fair demand for wheat has existed, and transactions have been reported in good milling parcels j prices can, however, hardly be quoted so high, and closing rates are not over 4s 3d to 4a 6d. Sales of several parcels of oats for delivery in town have been made at, 2s 9*l, and at thia rate good aamplea are readily quitted. Yeaterday, Mesßra M'Landress, Hepburn, und Co. offered by auction, at their rooma, Manse street, various grocery and other imported goods, realising fair pricea for variouß lines quitted. To-day the same firm submitted the cargo of sugars ex Marengo, jusfc to hand, the whole of which were placed without difficulty. White crystals realized £37 5s to £37 12s 6d; fine pale yellow crystals, £37 10a, avernge ; yellow cryatals and good counters, £35 lOs to £34 17s 6d j brown crystals and second counters, £36 to £34 7s (id ; rations, £30 7s 6d. Theso prices are on the average equal to last quotations, the lower clasa sugars, however, realising the highest proportionate rates. Melbourne. — From the "Argus" ofthe 4th we tako : — The arrival of I he New Zealand Bteamer has placed several fresh parcels of oats on the market ; of these some 400 bags •were cleared off at 3s lid per bushel, or 9s 9£d ptr cental, and a parcel ot" 300 bags, ordinary quality, was disposed of at 3a 9d per bushel, or 8s 6d per cental. Maizo is less run after again, and cannot be quoted over 4s Hd per bushel, or 8s 9£d per cental. Malting barley has been sold afc 4s 3d per bushel, or 8s 6d par cental. A shipment of Anu-rican chairs met with a purchaser afc a slight improvomont on late auction tales'. Rosin has been disposed of at £8. In tobacco we note sales privately of medium tens at ls j under the hammer 150 packages were offered this forenoon. Twists, faulty, realised ls 3d to Is 4Jd ; tens, ls 4£d ; fives, ls 2U to ls 3£d ; twist, Is Of rl to Is lfd. Large speculative transactions continue to be effected in sugar. Wo learn that the sale of the cargo of the Eva Joshua and Cyrus, comprising 11,108 bags, under ne gofciation since yesterday, has been completed this afternoon. A full prico is said to have been obtained. The value of the four cargoes thus sold privately by one firm of brokers witbin tho last throe days cannot be less than £70,000. Tho damaged portion of the cargo of Java sugars per Defiance, consisting of 1253 mats, was oleared out by auction at very fair prices. Some 4500 baga Mauritius are advertised for public Bale on Wednesday next.
