Spuboeon on Miwisxees. — At the autumnal session of the .Baptist Union afc Cambridge the Eev. C. H. Spurgeon said : — " I reccommend every young minister to make his sermon his firat business. The pulpit is the Thermopyla) of Christendom. Your people may grumble fchafc you don't go about and drink as many cup 3of tea at thoir housea aa tbey would like. If you give fchem good food on the Sabbath they will pufc up with a great deul. If tho Sabbath joint ia only a giim scrag of mutton, with pleiafcy of divisions and nothing to divido— (laughter)— you wili soon discover that your people will nofc bo f utisfied. In fcho next placo do nofc neglect visitation. Ifc is true that I cannot visit my 4350 membors ; bufc my visitation is done by the elders. Nexfc lot me say a word or two to the people. It is a remarkable fact fchafc Ministers of the Gospel are riot able to live on much leas than ofcher people. (Laughter) . They cannot make a shilling go aa far as ofcher people can make a sovereign. Some of fchem try very hard, bufc fchey do nofc succeed. A member onco said to a minister who wanted a little more salary as his family increased, ' I did nofc know thafc you preached for money.' ' No, I don't,' said the minister. ' I thought you preached for souls.' So I do; bufc I could nofc livo on souls — (laughter) — and if I could ifc would tako a a good many tho size of youra fco mako a meal." (Renewed laughter),
