* Auckland, February 6. The elections for City West came off to-day. Much interest was taken in the proceedings. The result was, Gillies, Superintendent, 510 508; Dignan, 200. The Thames election takes place on Thursday, Swan is the favorite. Authentio information was received last Saturday that Tapihana and party in Pirongia has been twice reinforced, and numbers now about forty men. Women are warned to sleep in the Harapipi blockhouse, as the natives are reported to be near there ; they were seen on the ranges by several people yesterday, Commissioner Branigan is suffering severely from the effects of sunstroke. Dunedin, Wednesday. At the Dunstan election Shepherd polled 195 ; Frazer, 134; Hughes, 55 ; Mervyn, 47 ; Mervyn retired, in favor of Shepherd, for whom the miners from Wnfeea district voted. Aflived— The Mary Melford, from Boston. Bluff, Wednesday, Dillon Bell addressed the electors for the Matuura here last night, and a vote of confidence in him was curried unanimously.
