LAND TRANSFER ACT AND CROWN GRANTS.
* TO THE BDITOB OP THE INDEPENDENT. Sib, — I find by a report in the Independent, that the Land Transfer Act, which passed the last session of the General Assembly came into operation in this province on the Ist inst. lam desirous, as a small land owner, to embrace its provisions, but I find that not being in possession of my Crown Grant, and in the position in which I am placed, I cannot do bo. Some fifteen years ago, I purchased land in the Wairurapa Small Farm District, but to tho present date I am not able to procure my Crown Grant. I have applied for it to the land office, several yaira ago, and have been informod that inaccuracies have been found in Hughe's survey, and it was desirable that another survey of tho district should be roado before tho Crown Grants bo issued, and yet, 1 find, year after yeur passes by and no effort is made by tho survey department to test the survey, although a surveyor is and has been attached to tho district for yenrs. In consequence of this neglect, I am unable, in common with many other settlers, to comply with the 22nd clause of the Land Transfer Act, which directs " that every applicant shall, when making his application, surrender to tho District Land Registrar all instruments affecting hia title," and, therefore, the benefits which were intended by the act to bo conferred upon mo and others who aro similarly circumstanced, are I for tho reasons givefi, a failure.
Some persons, however, are of opinion that under tho 105 th, section of the act dealings in land may be registered prior to the issue of Grant from the Grown ; but where the boundaries are disputed!, as in ray case, I am (of opinion there is no relief. — I am, &c. A Smallfarmbb.
