4 The nomination for the Provincial Council takes place to-day at noon, and the poling on Saturday. The City Council will meet at tbeir Chambers at hnlf-paßt three to-day. GrARBisoN Band. — In consequence of the unfavorable nature of the weather last evening, the performance by tho above bnnd that was to have taken place yesterday eveniDg, has been postponed. Land Salb.— We wonld again call the attention of intending purchasers of land in the Rangitikei-Manawatu block, which will be held on the 27th February next, that they can soo the sketched map nt this office. We have already called attention k to the excellence of

the map in point of execution, and as a guide to selectors; but we msy ndd that the land is laid out to suit tho purchasers of all deans, ae the allotments are of all sizes, from a few aores up to 100 and 150 and upwards. Coi/LINGWOOD Coal. — Mewsrs Hooper and Dodson, brewers of Nelson, have experimented and reported upon the Collingwood coal, and after a fair test of its capabilities declare it better than the New South Wales coal. .Accident at Westfort.— William Williams, a boy living at O'rawaiti was amusing himself with a six barrelled revolver last week, and met with an accident that nigh led to fatal results. The pistol was loaded with powder and an iron tack, the head of a Jucifer serving in place of a cap. The boy was busily engaged looking down the muzzle of the piece when by aotne unexplained agency the pistol exploded, and a portion of the charge entered the boy's forehead, penetrating to the skull, the tack then passing upwards nnd out of the upper part of the forehead.
