THE, Telegraph Commissioner is prepared to receive tenders for the conveyance by sea from Wellington of Telegraph Poles to the andermentioned places and in the quantities indicated — To Patea, north bank of river ... 480 ToOpunake 520 To New Plymonth 400 The greater portion of tho poles will be 20 feet, the remainder 25 feet long ; the poles to be landed by the contractor ono (1) chain above high water mark. Tenders to state the price per pole as per sizes given, and time that will be required to deliver them in. Tenders will be received for the conveyance of the whole, or for each separate place as abovementioned. Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of ten (£10) as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to be- . come bond for the due performance of the contract, in the event of the tender being accepted, and must bo accompanied by a notification to that effect, signed by the two proposed sureties. Tenders, endorsed " Tenders for the conveyance of poles," and addressed " The General Manager, Telegraph Department, Wellington," must be sent in not later than the 25th January, 1871. SALE OF LAND j IS THE BANGITIKEI- MANAWATU DISTRICT mHE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OF WELLINGTON will sell by Public Auo fcion, at the upset price of £1 per acre, a block of land of about 18,000 acres in the Manawatu District. The sale will take place at the Town Hall, j Marton, Rangitikei, about the 27th FEB- I RUARY NEXT. Maps showing the position of the block in relation to the surrounding country, and giving a detailed plan of the sections offered for sale, will be visible at the Land Office on or after the 25th January. Lithographed copies may bo procured by application at the Provincial Secretary's office, Wellington. The block now offered for sale is tho first instalment of a block o/ 220,000 acres purchased in the year 1865 from the nativeß, and is situated on the south bank of the Bangitikei Eiver, having a frontage of about 10 miles, and an average depth of three miles. It ib intersected by numerous streams, contains considerable patches of available hush, and is of the finest description of agricultural land. The Kangitikei District, from which the Mana•watu block is separated only by the river (fordable at all points), contains a population of 3000 souls, and has been in the possession and occupation of freehold farmers for nearly 20 years, and is traversed in every direction by good metalled roads. The block offered for sale is within 30 miles of the port of Wanganui, within five miles of the mouth of the Bangitikei River, which is accessible to \ small coasters, and a road is in course of formation right through the block to the harbor of the Manawatu River, which i 3 accessible to vessels drawing from eight to ten feet of water. AS some sixty families of pioneer emigrants from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, are expected to arrive during the months of January, February and March, consisting of the following occupations, viz : — Agricultural and other laborers Carpenters Machinists j Blacksmiths Cattle drivers and tenders Brokers and millers i Tailors The first instalment is expected from Norway in the Cdoemo this month, and consist of eighteen men with wives and families of two children. The heads of families vary in age from twenty to thirty-five years, and are doscribed as active, steady, industrious, and accustomed to hard labor. Parties desirous of employing any of the above are requested to make application to the Provincial Secretary, Wellington, stating terms on which they are willing to engage them. . — IN pursuance of " The Regulation of Elections Act, 1870," I, JAMES C.
