TO THE BDITOB OF THE INDEPENDENT. Sih,— What will the " Post" localise next ? What will they do to bolster up the great Plim., G-ill., 'lrav., Bich. Association. Their ' remarks upon Mr John Martin are an insult the most heinous and also the most contemptible. It would be adding insult even to answer them. But what do they mean by working men ? Working classes, forsooth. Who is not a working roan, or one of the working class in Wellington, I would ask ? Amongst the so-called working men is there not more money, bvnin, good thoughts, actions and principles than can be found among^those men who loaf about and parade the streets of Wellington, useless in themselves, and a burthen on the public at large, so filled with cant and gossip, and so base, their only occupation being asking their fellows " What's the news ?" and telling some extraordinary story, clenohcd by a lie, if there only be a glass of beer in prospective on the cheap. As one among a largo number of voters that wish an independent man to come forward for the good of the majority, say, tradesmen, mechanics, and artisans, without having in view nny further reward than to serve his country well and truly, and alao abstain from clap- trap and lying remarks, to mislead us voters. Men who talk by the hour are not wanted 5 neither men who can write by the yard without a tittle of common eenso. " All wo want is a man of action, who haß the pluck and common sense to say yes or no upon political questions, as the case may be. A man whose passing remark is even better than a speech of two" hours by tho twaddlers : who are trying to gull us, the electors of Wellington, to secure interests for themselves and their friends.
