Wn.aAi.vx: 18th — Early, Wanganui, from Wellington. Port Chalmers : 18th— 10.50 a.m., Phcobe, from Lyttelton ; 2.40 p.m., Pho.be, for Bluff. Nelson : 18th— 3 p.m., Omeo, from Greymouth. The barque Estrella, Captain Crowder, sailed yesterday afternoon for London direct, with a fine fair breeze. Sho was in excellent sailing trim, and we anticipate will make a quick run home. The three-masted schooner Ceara, which* brought up in Worser'a Bay on Monday last, sailed yesterday morning for Sydney. We nnderstand tbat she will proceed from Sydney to China with a cargo of coals, and return from thence with a cargo of tea, probably to this port. The .barque Eek, Captain M'Kellar, will sail to-day for Newcastle. The Bchooner Ruby, Captain Fraser, from Kaikoras, arrived in port yesterday afternoon. The Amateur is discharging her cargo of sawn timber at the Queen's Wharf. The s.B. Taranaki, Captain Wheeler, was appointed to leave Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon, and Lyttelton for Wellington at a late hour this evening ; and will be due here to-morrow evening about 5 p.m. She is to leave here on Saturday morning at 8 a.m., for a special trip to Nelson, and will return on Sunday night with a large number of excursionists. Several boats, including Mr Cross' yacht, the Minnehaha, will be brought over by her, to compete at tho Anniversary Regatta. The Amateur Christy Minstrels and the Nelson cricketers will also be passengers by her. The latter will play a matoh with the Wellington cricketers, at the new cricket ground, on Tueßday', and we anticipate some good play, as the Nelson eleven will no doubt do their best to regain their lost laurels. We understand that it is in contemplation to entertain the cricketers and the boating men at Moeller's Empire Hotel on the evening of the same day. GREAT CAPTURE OF GERMAN SHIPPING BY THE FRENCH. Great Grimsby, Wednesday evening. Information has been received here to-day of the capture of the North Germon Lloyd's steamers Henea and Leipzic. tThe Hansa had 78 and the Leipzic 20 passengers. The French have also captured and burned the barque Juno, of Dantzic. The English barque Red Cross Knight, of Swansea, for Valparaiso, was fired at three times by the French fleet near Heligoland. She showed her ensign, and was then ordered for England. Norwich, Wednesday evening. An exciting chase has taken place off the Norfolk coast between a French ironclad and a Prussian merchant vessel. The Frenchman fired no less than 25 shots at the Prussian, •which, however, got clear off and made forthe north. SALES BY AUCTION THIS DAY.
