_ — ♦ [From Greville's Telegram Company. Beutee's Agents.] CHRISTCHUECH, Tuesday. Cedeno was brought up at the Police Court this morning, and remanded till tomorrow. The inquest on the body of Margaret Burke takes place at the Hospital at two o'clock this afternoon. Mary Glynn, the surviving girl, progresses favorably. A large crowd in the vicinity of tho Police fy Court hooted Cedeno on his being reconveyed in a cab to the police depot. Cracroft Wilson retires from tho contest for Coleridge. Wednesday. The nomination for representatives for the General Assembly for City East took place at noon to-day. A. Duncan, ex-Mayor, and E. J. Wakefield were nominated. The show of hands was in favor of Duncan ; Wakefield demanded a poll, which will be taken on the 18th instant. Cedeno baa been committed for trial for wilful murder. The Superintendent will be re-elected for Avon, without opposition. GKEYTOWN, Wednesday. Bunny is having large meetings at Featherston and Grey town. Votes of confidence in him were passed by acclamation. Andrew and Pharazyn were present, and addressed the electors. TAUEANGA, 11th Jan, 4.35 p.m. The overland mail to tho Thames is a success. It takes thirteen hours. The Ngae Tirangi tribe refuse to visit the King. Penetaka, chief of the Piriraukau, visited Te Epapa and was much delighted at his reception. He received European settlers. He asserts to peace throughout Tauranga. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. There #re five candidates to represent the city in the Assembly. Macassey and Reynolds' return is considered certain. Main's constituents entertain him to dinner on Friday. The cricket team to play Canterbury that is selected is exceedingly weak, and defeat almost certain.
