CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A horrible tragedy was committed here this afternoon. Simon Cedench, a native of Pauama, and butler to Mr Robinson, station owner, stabbed two. of his. fellow-servants. Go fco Maungatawhiri. A second warning is sent. The road is now closed. The messenger is not to return." Another message says tha,t Tapihana stales thafc the King will not recognise any other boundary than Maungatawhiri, and thafc he did not recognise confiscation. Colonel Lyon has been reinforced. AUCKLAND (via Tauranga), Sunday. The s.s. City of Melbourne has- just arrived from Sydney with forty-fire passengers for California. The barque Rialto and several other vessels have been wrecked off fcho coast of Sydney. Thp Australasian Steam Navigation Company have offered to charter three steamers for the projected new mail service between San Francisco and Sydney, contingent upon expected subsidies. The Queensland Assembly have passed a resolution affirming that the authority of the Government; to authorise the negotiation with any parties for a mail and passenger service via Fiji to San Francisco, or Sydney, Auckland, and San Franciaco at a cost to the Queensland Government of nofc exceeding £10,000 per annum. The Government store at Mercer has been burned down, and £200 worth of wool, flax, &o, stored there were destroyed. A man named Dunn, living here, has been committed for trial on seven distinct; oharges j of robbery and burglary. A miner named George was seriously injured this morning by a fall of about six tons of earth while working in a drive. He is scarcely expocted to survive the injuries. NAPIEB, Saturday. A tea meeting was held at the Odd Fellows' Hall last evening to welcome the Rev. Mr Redstone, who bas come to found a branch of the United Methodist Free Church, Mr Joseph Rhodes in the chair; 250 were present, and fche affair was a greafc Buccess. A fire was discovered in the malthouse of the White Swan Brewery yesterday evening, and was extinguished with difficulty. The building was uninjured.
