A NUISANCE.

Sir, — Not having seen the municipal laws of Wellington, perhaps you will kindly inform me if butchers are allowed in Wellington fco kill beasts, such as calves, pigß, lambs, &c, on fcheir premises, and whether they or any other inhabitant is allowed to keep pigs within a few yards of their .neighbors' dwellings. » In the back premises of a butoher in Cuba streefc, and in close proximity to several dwellings, these nuisances are carried on with impunity, the effluvia at times in the heat of the day and aho at night is something dreadful, arising from an open drain and the pig styes, together with the keep of several horseß in the yard, which ore allowed to roam about during the night. Occasionally a calf is introduced into the happy family on a Thursday waiting to be slaughtered until Friday evening, when ifc is simply ridiculous to think of having any sleep during its confinement. The plan to adopt, I know, is to clear oufc, which I intend doing, bufc I do think thafc as an Inspector of Nuisances is appointed, and as these matters must be considered nuisances and an infringement of fche municipal laws, fchen he should be compelled to do his duty without fear or favor, and have them remedied, or make room for such a one as is to be found in Dunedin, who favors no one, nofc even the Magistrate himself. — Yours, &c, R.
