Tiie "Colonist" furnishes the following items : —We Lear that shares in the lSe\--son and Foxhill Railway Company are ' being taken up, and with good promises of success. Over one hundred shares were taken up on Saturday, besides others formerly applied for. The great object in view of the directors is to have the company floated by the end of October, so as to secure the benefit - of the guaranteed minimum interest of ten per cent fov the first ten years. We hear that one substantial resident in town is prepared to invest £1000. One word in favor of native manufactures. That word is " glue," a shipment of the New . Zealand made article being offered for sale by Mr Cooke, at the lloyal Blue House. At Charleston, a miner named John Hice has been charged with stabbing a blacksmith named John Henderson, and is committed for trial at the District Court Sittings at Westport. A miner, named T. J. Pascliali, fell off a bridge, while in a state of intoxication> at Maori Gully, the Grey, a few days ago, and was killed. An illustration of the proverb that " misfortunes never come single," occurred to Mr Luckie, Editor of the " Colonist," on Friday week. Mr Luckie had engaged a " spider" to drive to Wakefield, but before leaving the town, on turning the vehicle too sharply, the wheels got locked, and an upset ensued, whereby one of the wheels was damaged. He •then tried a tilbury, bufc before completing his drive a butcher ran his cart into the tilbury, throwing Mr Luckie and his companion out, and wrecking the trap, but without any other injury resulting.
