[Prom Our Own Correspondent.] NAPIEIt, Monday. There is no English mail yet, and people are complaining. Judge Kogan arrived by the Keora last evening. Nothing has been heard from liopata yet. A. later telegram says that information has been received at Napier that llopata's expedition have returned to Poverty Bay on tho 21st instant, having been detained by continued floods. He had found To Tvooti's tracks, which showed that his baud had divided into two parties. To Kooti is believed to have retired again to the Waioeka Gorge. Hopata purposes making another expedition as soon as the state of the weather will permit. All the country about Mercer, Waikato, is under water, but no lives have been lost. O'Brien, the Roman -Catholic clergyman stationed atTauranga, died suddenly through congestion of the lungs. Watson and Scanlon's oil merchants' premises, Queen street, Auckland, caught fire. The hose from Firth's was quickly brought into play, and got the fire under very soon. The stock is insured in the New Zealand and Victoria offices for £2600. I Blundel), a watchmaker at the Thames, was robbed of 40 watches. Three men have been arrested at the Waitokahi creek, and nearly all the watches recovered. The names of the men are — Nash, Johnson and D. Dick. John Driver has been arrested for stabbing a Maori woman at Onehunga. James Gaffery, belonging to Taranaki, was accidentally drowned. He leaves a wife and family in SydneyDUNEDIN, Monday. M'Lennon has been committed to take his trial. All the treasure has been recovered except £100, the lo9s of which is to be borne by the Banks. Tho news from tho reefs at Cromwell is very encouraging. A new one has been discovered on Curricle Itange, showing good prospects. The Cromwell Company crushed 3ooozs last week. The Port Chalmers Railway was commenced to-day.
