By the s.s. Alhambra we have received our usual files of papers up to the 3rd insfc., inclusive. The s.s. Omeo, hence the 21sfc, and Hokitika the 27th ult., arrived at Melbourne on the 2nd inst. H.M. 50th regiment embarked on board the s.s. Himalaya on the Ist inst., at Adelaide, for England. The import market business continued quiet ; but the up-country trade had improved. Flour iB quoted at prices varying from £13 15s to £14 ss. Wheat, at 5a lid to 6s Id. Eerosene oil 2s ljd. Sugar, yellow crystals, 40s. The Sydney Chamber of Commerce has decided to hold the first meeting of the Intercolonial Customs Conference, on the 3rd May next. Mr Jones, who resigned his office and his seat iv consequence of a charge of bribery, has been re-elected for Ballarat West, by a majority of more than two to one over his opponent. The drought has been broken up, heavy rain having fallen in various districts. The eounfcry had been literally burnt up by the heat previously, and stock was dying in all directions.
