TE KOOTI'S ESCAPE FROM NGATEPA.
(to the editoe op the independent.) Sib, — I see by a statement made by the correspondent of the Eawke's Hay ECerald, that the escape of Te Kooti and his men from N"gatepa is attributed to our allies the Arawas. As an eyewitness of the whole affair, I think it only just to the Arawas and their officer to state that the correspondent of the Herald has on this matter, and, I am sorry to say, on several occasions, placed statements in papers that are totally without foundation, and which are liable, as on this occasion, to do great harm and create ill-feeling towards the bravest and mo9t soldier-like men in the colonial service — I have, &c, A.F.
