TOWN BOARD.
A meeting of the Commissioners of the Board of Works was held yesterday at the Board Office Members present : Messrs J. Dran>fleld (Chairman), Mills, Mosc, Carpenter, Q.uin, and Sharpe. The Treasurer stated that the balance at the Bank to the credit of the Board was £150 13s Id. DBAINAGE IN MOLESWOIM'II STREET. Mr Wakefield waited on the Board in connection with certain improvements by the General Government Bui'dings. The Board decided to provide the necessary labour for putting down n culvert and other works for drainage in Molesworth street, the General Government providing the material. Mr Murchant recommended that the watercourse should be brought from tho domain into the street to drain Molesworth street, Charlotte street and Hill street. Mr Carpenter objected to the diversion of the ancient watereourso from the Government domain to (he city streels, and read an amendment to that effect. The amendment was carried by tho casting vote of tho Chairman. GOVEKNMENT HOUSE PENCE. Mr Wakefield said the Government dosired to move the fenco by Government House in a lino with the shops on tho bench, Tho report of the Surveyor was read, showing tlmtit would be an encroachment. The Chairman said ho was not one to sny that the fence should be put back in its original 'place, but ho would object to any further encroachment. Tho Board then resolved to mako a communication to that effect to the Government. Mr Wakefield then withdrew. CORHESPONDKN'CB. A lettor was received from the Secretary of the Cricket Club, asking for tho contribution of tho Board by deed being £25, and a return of the rent, £25. The amount was decided to be paid on production of tho vouchers. A letter was read from Mi* Pearco, relative to subleasea of town property.
The Board decided to grant the application, the tenants being respectable. Mr Carpenter moved th«fc in future, all applications for transfers of leases, if agreed to, be subjected to a contribution of £1 Is. A letter was received from Mr Logon, relative to laying down water pipes on Lambton Quay, asking permission of the Board to do the work. Application granted, streets to be relaid to the satisfaction of the Board, who would give every facility to the work. Mr Travers' letter relative to Mr Levy's fence was further considered ; it appeared that a letter had been written to Mr Travers in error, stating that the Board had decided not to entertain any claim. The matter was further postponed. The Board then adjourned.
