The A.S.JN". Co.'s steamer Alexandra, Capt. Brown arrived at Glenelg on Monday night, 3rd August, at half-past seven, after a good trip, occupying ninety-three hours and a half. The Alexandra and Avoca encountered severe gales on the upward passage. The Avoca lost two boats and twenty-six sheep.
The ship Geelong, Capfc. Skottowe, reached the Sound at half past five on the thirteenth July. She left Galle at seven p.m. on the fifteenth. Captain Skottowe was in charge of the mails ; Mr Leversage, purser. Passenger for Sydney — Major Blaokall, the new Governor of Queensland. Severe gales have swept the coast of Western Australia. Tho schooner Emily was wrecked and five lives lost. The Albatross was also wrecked, and eight lives lost. A despatch from Downing street proposes to increase the salary of the Governor of Western Australia to £2500.
