THE LEVEE.

The introductory levSe given by his Excellency Sir George Bowen on the occasion of his assumption of the government of this portion of her Majesty's dominions was held on Saturday afternoon, and attended by large numbers of town and country settlers, who had assembled to do honor to the representative of their Queen. Two o'clock was the time appointed for the ceremony, and shortly before that hour a guard of honor of No. 1 Rifle Company and the Veteran Volunteers was formed up in front of Government House } while mounted constables kept tho gates, and sentries from the marines on board H.M. s.s. Falcon lined the entrance to the Chamber of Representatives, in which the presentation took place. Punctually at two o'clock, his Excellency the Governor, attended by Captain Percival, R.N., Mr Lempriere, Private Secretary, Mr Foster Goring, clerk to the Executive Council, and Mr Smith, Assistant Private Secretary, left Government House by the private entrance and passed between the ranks of the guard, being received with the customary honors, the corps presenting arms, and the fine band of the Rifles playing the National Anthem. On entering the Colonial Secretary's Office, which served as an' ante-room, his Excellency was met by the Hon. the Premier, and after an interval of a few minutes was accompanied into the Chamber of Representatives by the Hon. Mr Stafford, tho Hon. Col Haultain, tho Hon. Major Richardson, the Bishop of tho Diocese, tho Very Reverend Bishop Viard, His Honor Mr Justice Johnston, His Honor C. D. R. Ward, the Earl of Pembroke, His Honor the Superintendent, Mr Eyes, Mr Domett, Mr Prendergast, Mr Gisbourne, Lieut.-Col. Reader, the Hon. John Johnston (the Consul for the Netherlands), |Mr Krull (Consul for Hamburgh), Captain Holt, Captain Mcßarnett, Captain Buck, Lieutenant Eliott, Lieutenant Hastings, Ensign Macdonald, all of whom either had an entree to the levee or had been previously introduced. Lady Bowen and a select party of ladies having been accommodated with seats, the presentations commenced, each gentleman on entering being 'announced by tho Undersecretary, passing through the rooms and so out into the grounds. The ceremony only lasted for about an hour, and at its close his Excellency and party retired, and the guard of honor were complimented on their Boldier-like appeurance and marched off.
