News from Buenos Ayres to the 18th August announced that the Spanish frigato Conception had arrived at Rio, the Nuinant'ia, the Navas de Tolosa, and the Alnianza were lying in that port. In Paraguay the allies had taken up advanced positions with the object of hemming Lopez within tho fortifications of Humaita. They had, however, suffered severely in their communications in cousequence, as a body of 2000 soldiers escorting provisions had beeu completely routed by the Paraguayans with a loss of 300 killed and wounded, and an equal number mado prisoners. A question is likely to arise between the Brazilian and Argentine Governments with regard to the fortifying of the . island of Martin Garcia.
