T IQUOR CARBONIS DETERGENS or ■fl.i Concentrated alcoholic solution of the constituents of Coal Tar. (Extract from Lancet, December 22, 1866). "Liq.. Cakhonis Detergens. — We are very sceptical of the value of new remedies, and it was m a spirit of scepticism that we tried the liq. carbonis detorgens. It is represented to be a concentrated alcoholic solution of the constituents of coal tar, and to contain all the active ingredients of the tai*, to wit, benzine, napthaline, and phenio acid. The addition of water, with agitation, makes n durable emulsion, in which the tar remains in ix state of fine suspension, almost equivalent to solution. Our therapeutical experience of the preparation is very satisfactory indeed. ' In our hands it has been a most effective agent in the case of various skin diseases, especially of the chronic cczematous class ; and one case of psoriasis which had resisted all other kinds of treatment speedily got well under the application of tho liq. carbonis delergens. We esteem it a very valuable addition to our list of skin remedies, and worthy of a very extended trial by the profession. In the above classes ©f disease, and in various others, such as fetid ulcers, &c, the preparation is put into the form of soap." PURE COAL TAR SOAP, (Registered as sapo carbonis detergens).
