X IQUOR CARBONIS DETERGENS or ,1 J Concentrated alcoholic solution of the constituents of Coal Tar. (Extract from Lancet, December 22, 1866). "Liq. Cabbonis Detbrgens. — We ara very sceptical of the value of new remedies, and it was in a spirit of scepticism that we tried the liq. carbonis detergens. It is represented to be a concenfcrnted alcoholic solution of the constituents of coal tar, and to contain all the active ingredients of the tar, to wit, benzine, napthaline, and phenic acid. The addition of water, with agitation, makes a durable emulsion, in which tho tar remains in a state of fino suspension, almost equivalent to solution. Our therapeutical experience of the preparation 13 very satisfactory indeed. In our hands it has been a most effective agent in the case of various skin diseases, especially of the chronic eczematous class ; and one case of psoriasis which had resisted all other kinds of treatment speedily got well under the application of the liq. carbonis detergens. We esteem it 0 very valuable addition to our list of skin remedies, and worthy of a very extended trial by the profession.
