The Bombayanchored in Hobson's Bay at 10.30 a.m. on the 14th instaut— one day behind due date. The cause of her non-arrival at her usual time was due to the P. & O. Company's steamer Surat grounding on a reef in the Red Sea, ninety miles from Suez. The mails and passengers were quickly transhipped to the P. & O. Company's steamer Nubia, but thousands of bales of cargo were thrown overboard from the Surat to lighten her. The prospects of saving her were favorable.
