By Cobb's coach which arrived yesterday afternoon from Wanganui we have files of papers to the 29th inst. It is rumored that a discovery of gold has been made in the Patea Itiver, als>) that.sluicing is going on at an extemive rate. At a pu'ilic meeting held in Wauganui it was resolved to fence in the Band hills at Nukumaru, under which tho mortal remains of the men who fell there are interred. A nativp nveting was held at P.ilea on tho 19th and 20th, convened by the Ngntiruanui and other Hau Han tribes, to which the friendly natives had been invited, but did not attend. The Hau Hans present expressed themselves strongly against confiscation, but stated that if any of their number com nitted outrages or murrierson tin* white* they should be given up to justice rather than that the whole tribe eiliould suffer. Another meeting has taken place at Tup-ire between the loyal natives and those lately concerned in the rebellion, at which speeches were made and gifts exchanged as a token of friendly intercourse having been established. It was reported in Taranaki on Saturday week that eighty Waikatos h*d passed inland of Uremn on the preceding day, ou their way down to join the Taranakis. A difficulty has arisen about the Nukunviru reserve in the Waitotara Block, lliwiri, who claims an interest therein, went to survey his piece of (he laud but was turned off. He now threatens to make tho survey with the help of 100 nnnetl friends. T'*e celebrated Waitotara nuggett is a 11 sell." Dr Hector said that it was of a dif ferent quality from any uo\\X hitherto dia covered iv the colony, and the Doctor was perfectly correct, for it came from Victoria,, and was seen in Wiinganui, six months ago. Somebody gr»ve it to W. H. Watt, Esq., .V1.H.1i., who gave it to Dr Hector for the Museum, where it now lies.
