Sydney. — Tho Morning Herald of the 35th October reports : — ! The Laneborough, from London, with general cargo, and tho Ellida, from Foochoo, with tea, arrived on 13th October. j Private advices received by tho mail aro con* * sidored as likely to improve trade, for although the export returns show an increase in shipments to the colonies, these returns are made up ten days before the departure of the mail, leaving the latter period to bo accounted for in tho next month's report. During the latter part of August shipments fell off, and the exports for the month ending 2Gth August show a decrease on the preceding one. Shanghai advices are to the 21st August. Of the tea market, the latest price current reports : — " Black : The business of the fortnight has been more limited, tho settlements amounting to only 31 chops. Rates show a small decline — say, 1 tael — since date of last report, and sellers are still anxious to realise, whilst buyers manifest a certain indisposition to operate. Green : Small settlements have taken place in consequence of tho paucity of our stocks. No difference in prices can bo quoted, but rates are well maintained, as the stoppage in the Pingsuey districts, on account of drought, diminishes the probability of teas arriving in bulk for some time," Coals ' dull ; transactions confined to Australian, for which 7s 5d was accepted. From Batavia, we learn that the Bengal had been taken up to load 800 tons sugar for Sydney, at £2 15s, and some light freights at £'L Sugar was firmly held for higher rates. 16th October. A meeting of creditors in tho estate of Messrs. Melcalfe & Foss was held at tho Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Metcalfe made a short statement respecting tho affairs of the firm. A Committee, consisting of Messrs. J. G. Ross, J. Fraser, and S. Smith, wore appointed to investigate the accounts and bring up a report at a future meeting. Messrs. Burt & Co. sold by auction, to-day, at the Annandale Yards, 174 head fat cattle, from £5 to £9-^each averaging £G 5s 6d j also, 250 shorn wedders, at 123 ; and 200 do, with wool on, at 13s. Messrs. Bradley, Newton, & Lamb sold by auction to-day, Stevens' Adelaide flour, of last year's manufacture, at £12 2b Gd per ton j White Valley, £12 17s Gd ; Elliott's, £12 7s. Tho Panama, from San Francisco, arrived, todny with 630 tons wheat, 325 tons flour, and papers to the 28th of August. I
