RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, WELLINGTON.
Tuesday, October 23. [Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.] ' ASSAULTING- A CONSTABLE. Bobert Graham, charged with assaulting Constable IHnnnngan, was fined 40b or in default to be imprisoned for seven days. . James Kenford, charged with the same offence, and, also, with attempting to rescue a prisoner, was fined £5, or to be committed for thirty days. BBOACniMG OAHO.O. • Nicholson and Heck, two seamen, were charged ■with stealing a bottle of brandy, part of the cargo of the ship Electra. Tha chief officer said that he. saw Nicholson secrete the bottle among some goods, but was unable to depose anything again9t Heck. The captain being in Court gave tho prisoner Heck an excellent character. His Worship dismissed tho charge as against Seek, and sentenced the prisoner Nicholson to fourteen daya imprisonment with hard labor.
