TELEGRAMS.

Lyttelton, Oct. 24. Arrived^ 6 a.m. — Rangitoto, s.s., from Wellington. Pioton, October 23. Arrived, 9.30 p.m.— Wellington, s.s., from Wellington. October 24. Sailed, 12.30 a.m. — Wellington, s.a., for Nelson.

Tho O.S.N. Co.'s R.M. s.s. Albion, Edward Kidney, commnnder, left Port Philip Heads at 4.15 p.m. on the 12th inst., arrived at Bluff harbor on the 17th,, having experienced during tho voyage moderate S.W. winds, with a very light cross aea ; left again at 4.30 p.m., and had fresh N.W. winds until arrival at Otago Heads at 12 a.m. on the 18th ; hove-to until daylight, and anchored at Port Chalmers at 4.15 a.m. ; left at 6 p.m. on the 20th; had light variable winds until arrival at Lyttelton at noon on the 21st ; left at 4.30 p.m. on the 22nd, and arrived at Wellington on the 23rd, having experienced, for the first part, light N.E., and afterwards strong N.W. winds. The Albion, s.s., sailed yesterday for Melbourne, via Nolson and Hokitika.

The P.N.Z. & A.R.M. Co.'s s.s. Egmont, Capt. J". V. Hall, arrived in hurbor at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. She left Nelson on the 11th inst, and was off Hokitika for six days beforo she could land passengers or cargo on account of tho roughness of tho weather. She proceeded to tho Bluff, and arrived on tho 19th ; remained there for twenty minutes, and proceeded to Otago, where she anchored on Saturday last 5 left on Sunday morning, arriving at Lyttelton on the 21st ; left, Lyttelton on Monday afternoon, and arrived here as above.

The brig Gazelle, Captain Tucker, from Newcastle, N.S.W., arrived in this port early yesterday morning. She left Newcastle on the 10th, and has made tho passage in fourteen days. She brings a cargo of coals consigned to her owner, F;. Stafford.

There were no vessels loading at Newcastle for this port when the Gazelle left. Tho three-masted schooner Manukau had not arrived in Newcastle up to tho 10th inst, she being then nino days out. The barques Lizzio Scott and Fanny Fisher cleared at tho Customs yesterday } the former for Callao, and the latter for Sydney. When the weather moderates they will proceed on their

voyage.. The P.N.Z. & A.R.M. Co.'s s.s. Claud Hamilton, Captain Ponsonby, is advertised in tho Sydney papers for Hokitika and tho Groy, to sail on tho 20th in3t. She is duo here on tke 30th.

The P.N.Z. & A.R.M Co.'s s.s. Ruahine, hence the 3rd instant, arrived in Sydney on the 9th, at 11 a.m. AH tho way across she experienced fine weathor and calms with tho exception of a breeze from tho N.E., which lasted a few days, and was attended with a heavy swell.

MISCELLANEOUS SHIPPING.

Accident to the John Williams, Mis3ionr Babqtje. — The mission barquo John Williams arrived here, yesterday, having sustained some damage in conseqaenco of having touched on a coral reef in tho harbor of Aniteum. We give tho following extract from the Bhip'a log: — " September sth, entered the harbor of Aniteum on the south-west side, with a fresh breeze and

equally wind coming from tho high land, and while beating up the harbor tho wind veered two or three points to the northward, so that, in staying the ship she came up without lifting, consequently she forged ahead in stays, and struck on ii coral rock ; everything was thrown back, and the sails trimmed so as to pay her off, but she still Btuck fast ; tho port bower anchor and forty-five fathoms chain were taken out astern and hove taut but could not get her off, as she lay heavily on the edge of tho reef, and the tide was rising and falling six feet. Mr. Underwood sent oil" four boats with crews to render assistance, but they found that the ship was leaking very badly, she having four feet six inches in the well. The pumps were kept going, and after about four hours they began to suck, and Wo then found that the ship was making twenty-four inches per hour. Kept the pumps constantly going, and the' crew wore engaged lightening the ship by discharging, cargo from the fore hold ; divers wove also employed to examine tiie bottom, when the damage wa9 found to bo slight. Tarred blankets were applied to the leak ; and on the 11th, at high water, she floated off. At a meeting of the missionaries it was decided to send her up to Sydney, for repairs. During her passage up, she has experienced head winds for tho greater part of the trip. Fearing an a^ident, the mission schooner J)ny Spring accompanied the John Williams to this port."— « S. M.
