(TotJieEditwoftheWEVLWG-EOK Independent.)

. Wellington, July 1, 1866. Sib, — You will greatly oblige the undersigned by inserting .this letter in your valuable paper, having been present, at the trial of Mr. Randall Boardman, on Friday, 29fch June, . charged" with insulting Mr. Isbister, chief engineer of the 8.8. Queen. > Now, Mr. Editor, to show you some of the facts why Mr. Boardman had been caused to lose his temper and to call Mr. Istisfcer the names he did was this : Mr. Isbisfcor was appointed to superintend the repairs done by Mr. Mills for the N.Z.S.N. Co.'s s.s. Que»n. Now, when the engines were fairly disconnected and the engineers commenced their several jobs, and were obliged to hear how the work had to be done from Mr.. Isbister, they felt astonished at him,: as to cause them to remark on him as fo his. ability as chief engineer to an enterprising Company a 9 the N.Z.S.N: Company is, which some of the workmen had been tried and tested as good engineers who had to do work according to .his instructions. So , disgusted were they at his way of having the jobs done, that they all put down then* tools, and would not work any longer under Mr. 'Isbister's • super infcehdency. Here was a dilemma for Mr. Mills to bo placed»in. His foreman, Mr. R. Boardman, to save his own character, had on several occasions given up ' his situation, rather than have the work not done as it' ought to be done. However, it was arranged that Mr. B. Boardman. had to have the whole management of the repairs.. The .men went to work, in* good will, and finished the work in proper workmanlike mariner. ' ' •' ' "' ' •■'•■••••-' Wo shall not occupy too much of your valuable space, by going into details about how the rppaira of the s.s. Queen were delayed by the Chief Engineer— owing to him not lending tools and labor, so as to further the work on, in which mostengineers take a delight in doing; but this we have to say, that My. Isbister did .not eny in Court that he called Mr. Boardman names in his own shop, so as to enrage him as to make" use of the language ho did, unmindful, perhaps,'what he did say at the time. Suffice it to say,' that, time will give Mr. Isbister a chance : to, elevate himself far above the ideas of these that would not work under him. We subscribe our names to these facts and statements, and helieve us to be your constant readers. . . .*.'" R. W.
