GOVERNMENT LAND SALE. PROVINCE OF WELLINGTON IMPORTANT SALE OF LAND IN THn MANAWATU DISTRICT .TOWNSHIP, SUBURBAN, AND SMALL FARM ALLOTMENTS TIMBERED SECTIONS, &o. IT IS NOTIFIED' for PUBLIC INFORMATION, that an important AUCTION SALE will shortly be held in Wellington of upwards, of 5,000 ACRES, consisting of— Town Lots in the Township of Manawatu, situate at To Awa Hou, the present landing-place for goods, about three miles from the mouth o the river. Tließc sections will vary from a quarterftore to one aero. A few Town Lots in the Township of Moutoa, about 12 miles above the Manawatu Township, and also on tho River. Suburban and Small Farm Allotments, in blocks varying from 2to 100 acres. These blocks are adjacent to the two Townships, and are also laid off on either side of the road now in progress ■to connect the Moutoa with the Manawatu Township, and on branch lives of road. Timber Sections — (As many as can be surveyed will bo offered for sale) — About 18 miles above Moutoa, laid off on either sido of a road now in progress to give access through tho bush to the navigablo portion of the river. These sections will vary from 100 to 820 acres, and several of thorn Trill hnve river frontages. A Township will be laid off at a suitable place on this lino of road, which will be a connecting line between the Rangitikei and the river navigation, through the open and bush country of the Oroua andjUpper Manawatu. The River Manawatu has a depth of water on the bar varying from 9 to 12 foet, and is navigable for vessels of that draught for nearly 40 miles (by the river) from the mouth. The timbered sections to be offered for b.ile form tho extreme end of a rich flat block of forest land of great extent (about 60,000 acres) a considerable portion of which i 6 covcrod with the finest totara timber. The road through these sections opens up the extensive plains between the Rangitikei and tho Manawatu to the river, winch is the natural and only outlet to that district. This road will also form part of a lino of inland road from Wellington to Wanganui. Cobb & Co.'s Coaches run twice-a-week between Wellington and Manawatu, and every information can be obtained from the Survey Office, at Manawatu, by intending purchasers. As coon as possible before the sale, a map with full particulars of tho sections of land for sale wil also be published. A further notice will bo issued, giving the da on which this land will be offered for sale, and fu particulars os to upset price, bizo of lots, &c, w be published. A. FIXED LIGHT ON SOAMES' ISLAND, Port Nicholson Harbor. HIS HONOR tho SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified that on the night of SATURDAY, the SEVENTEENTH day of FEBRUARY next, and every night thereafter, from the going away of daylight in the evening to the return of daylight in the morning, a Light will be exhibited from the undermentioned Lighthouso, the position and characteristics. of which have been specified by John Halliday, Harbor Master for the Evovince of Wellington, as -follows : — PORT NICHOLSON HARBOR LIGHT. The Lighthouse is situated on Soame's Island and hus beon constructed and arranged chiefly as a leading light fox* vessels entering the port through the main channel. Tho Light is Catadioptric of fcKe fourth order, showing a fixed Whito Light in mid-channel, a fixed Red Light on the Western, and a fixed Green Light on the Eastern Shore, and will bo exhibited fr.om an Octagonal Tower of Iron^ painted whito. Tho Light will be about eeventy-four (74) feet above high water mark, and is visible in ordinary weather at a distanco of ten (10) nautical miles, or four (4 miles outride Pencarrow Head Light. CAUTION. — Masters of vessels entering tho Port through the main entrance aro cautioned not to shut the Whito Light in after bringing Pencarrow Light to bear E.N.E. Tho White Light will lead in clear of all dangers and may be steered for until the Red Light on the Queen's Wharf bears W.S.W., when a course- may bo steered for any part of tho anchorage as- convenient.
