SECOND DAY.
The second day of the Races dawned mauspiciously — the morning being very wet and stormy. Towards noon, however, it cleared up wonderfully, and although shower 9 of rain continued to fall afc intervals - on one occasion very heavily— during the day, the sports went on with much spirit, and the usual amount of betting on the several favorites was recorded. The principal event of' the day — indeed of the meeting — was the Wanganui Jockey Club Plate of 50 soya. added to a sweep-stake of £4 45., open to nil horses; distance 3 miles. The following were the entries : — Mr. Harrison's bh Warrengato, 4 yrs Mr. James Day's bg Glengarry, 5 yrs Mr. James Day's br g War Eagle, aged Dr. Mussen's eh g Rob Roy, aged Mr. A. Cameron's bh Don Juan, aged Mr. John Walker's eh m Policy, 3 yrs Policy came in first and Grlengarry second, the rest nowhere. Much interest was manifested in the Hurdle Race, which was the first to come off. The horses passed in the order of Duodecimo first, and Pacha close up. There wa# also a Maori Steeplechase that was well contested.
