MEDICAL BOARD.

(To the Editor oftlie Welusotos Independent.) S ir, — T understand that there is a Medical Board for this Province, and that all the profession are required to join it. Now, a fatal malady has been committing fearful ravages amongst the children of this city for some time past, und I have not heard of any action being taken by the Board to investigate the cause of the disease, or to endeavour to arrest its progress. Surely it is within the province of the Board to take this matter in hand. They should meet, compare notes, and adopt the treatment which has been most successful in the recovery of patients. If it was necessary to have a post mortem examination, I feel convinced that there are many parents who would willingly permit it to be done. If this were done, the seat of the disease would no doubt bo discovered, and a remedy could than be applied. It is all nonsense to tell me that all the cases that have occurred in town are simply scarlet ina. Every fever is now called scarlctina, and, I presume, ia treated accordingly. To my certain knowledge the worm fever is very prevalent amongst children, and, to the uninitiated, may very readily betaken for (ho scarletina ; it is also hinted that the black fever has been introduced from India. These doubts might readily be cleared up, if the Board were to make a searching enquiry into the matter and publish a report. Fever is now prevalent in the country districts, and in many instances it is impossible to procure medical assistance. If the Board were to publish, a few remarks upon the symptoms of the prevailing disease, and somo plain directions as to the mode of treatment best to be adopted, they would confer a lusting benefit upon the community at large and the outsettlers in particular. I am, Sir, &c, Colonist.
