Commercial.

As stated in our last Summary our expectations have to a certain extent been realised, for business matters hnvo taken a. decided turn for the bettor. Country orders are coming in freely and u.ll articles i squired for Station consumption lire in demand. The Asteropo from London has arrived and brings a valuable cargo. Most of her are saleable and will be disposed of speedily, and to advantage. The English News received by last mail added to the' resignation of our Colonial Ministry has greatly tended to keep down anything like mercantile speculation, and all purchases now made are entirely for present consumption. Our new clip of wool will commence coming in at the end of the present month, and the satisfactory state of tho London Wool market, will holp our friends in the country very considerably. Stocks are still heavy of most articles. Importations from Otago have been large, at prices considerably under the cost of goods direct from London to this market. It is to bo feared that direct importations will cease altogether for a. time in consequence of tho low rates ruling for most articles iu tha Southern Provinces, leaving to thoso who have been importing from London to thia Province, in most instances a loss. Our Prices Current (sse page 7) has been corrected to this date, but many of tho urticles hare not altered in price since our last advices. Flour has again advanced in price, and is worth from £26 to £.'B, with an upward tendency. Should we have no arrivals of Chilian Flour during the next month, the price will be much higher. Draught ale and portjr aro well supplied. Burton ale from £7 to £7 10s per hhd. Export portor £6 10s, and Trueman's XX stout £7 I Os. Bottl.ul beer from 9s Cd to 10s Cd. Brandy has receded in price, and MarteU's und llcnnefißy's are quoted at 10s to 10a Od per gallon. ' Woolpacka are scarce, 81b packs Gs Gd, and full weights 7s. Pine Suit, very scarce, price asked £8 per ton. Coarse salt £4, plentiful.
