The usual general monthly meeting of this body was held yesterday afternoon at the offices of Messrs. Bethune& Hunter, Exchange Build-ings, when the following members were present:— W. W. THE DEPUTATION TO THE SUPERINTENDENT. j The Chairman said it would be in the recollection of the members of the Chamber that the last meeting which had been held was a special one, and that a deputation had been appointed to wait on His Honor the Superintendent with the view of ascertaining what steps were being taken towards offering facilities to induce Captain Vine Hall to make j Wellington the port of call for the Panama steamers. No doubt, most of the members were aware of the success which attended the interview with His Honor, and it wus only necessary for him to say that the arrangements proposed by the Government for this object were entirely satisfactory. The deputation had subsequently an interview with Captain Hall, and he had expressed to them his approbation at the measures proposed to be taken. ESSAY FOR THE NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION. The Chairman said a letter had been received from Mr. Colenso, of Napier, requesting the Chamber to furnish him with certain information relative to the Wellington Province, as he was about to write an essay for the Exhibition.
