AUCKLAND STOCK AND SHARE MABKET.

MR. H. P. STARK S REPOKT. I have still to report general inactivity in the money market Capital is abundant, but not freely offered, as capitalists are holding, in anticipation of land speculations. Shareholders evince no disposition to do business at present rates. I have therefore no very material alteration to record in the market I have quitted New Zealand Insurance shares this week at £12 10s, being an advance of 10s per share, as six months' dividend has accrued on them, and it is expected the Company will declare 10 per cent dividend for the half-year, ending 30th November, this figure is much below their value. New Zealand bank shares are still firm at £5 premium. It having transpired that they have changed hands in London at £6 15s to £7 premium ; and that the late provincial loan (taken up by this bank) is fetching a good advance in the English markets, some speculation for a rise might be anticipated. Auckland Gas Company do not command much Inquiry. The remainder of the plant has arrived, and no doubt the company will soon commence operations for laying pipes, &c ; meanwhile, calls are being made without any immediate prospect of a dividend Shares do not at present realise a premium. New Zealand Steam Navigation Company. The demand for shai'es is steadily going on, and in many instances, the shareholders are paying up £5 per cent per share, so as to secure the 10 per cent interest on all advances paid. This company has already secured a large amount of interest and public favour from the New Zea - land public. . Some shareholders of the old company are of opinion that the new shares should have been issued at a premium, 4 months' profits of a very paying business having accrued to be divided amongst new shareholders.
