Local Intelligence.

Wkbok of a Cutter. — The schooner Sylph, Captain Swanson, from Lyttelton, arrived in this harbor on Sunday night last, after a quick passage of 30 hours. Captain Swanson informs us that the wreck of a cutter, timber laden, and supposed to be the Charlotte, had drifted on the rocks at Whitewash Head, between Godlcy Head and Sumner, on Thursday last. A boa; bud also been drifted ashore at Suinner, with a dead body in it ; and the beach was strewn with sawn timber and the hatches of the vessel. The boat was painted gre»n and portions of the wreck were also painted green. The body of the man found in the boat had been identified by several persons, but Captain Swanson does not remember his name. A quantity of clothes had also been picked up on the beach and marked in full " Gibson," The Charlotte was a cutter of 24 tons register, was built at Auckland in 1862, and her master's name was Robert Ward. There were two seamen on board, but their names are mentioned on the manifest. At the beginning of this month she took in a cargo of timber at Kai Warra VVarra (20,000 feel) which was shipped by Messrs. Tumbull aud Co., and cleared. at the Customs for the Heathcote on tie 13th instant. She must evidently have been capsized in a squall, and all on board have unf jrtunately perished, Abkivai- op the John BtrarAN.-- The clipper ship John Bunyan, Captain Allan, from London direct, armed in this harbor on Saturday last, after & quick passage of 96 days from the Channel. She came into port iv gallant style, with her skysail yards across, and looked very pretty as she came to her anchorage in Lambton harbor, with her number flying. She brings nine passengers, and an assorted cargo of general merchandise. Among the passengers we notice the name of the llev. J. S. Muir, who bas ceme to supply the vacancy occasioned by the retirement of the Rev Mr. Kirtou. She has brought a quantity of arms and ammunition for the General Government, consisting of carbines, revolvers, and pistols, and ammunition for the same. Captain Allan has imported a pure bred alderney bull by this opportunity, which will be a uieful acquisition to the province. The Jobu Banyan is consigned to Messis. Levin & Co., and will load wool for London direct immediately after discharging her inward cargo. N.Z.S.N Company.— Our report of the important meeting at Auckland for the promotion of this Company's objects must unavoidably stand over till next issue. It is satisfactory, however, to be able to state, that the present prospects and future intentioos of the Directors were fully explained to the Auckland citizens by W. B. Rhodes, Esq., and other Wellington gentlemen, the result being that a resolution pledging the support of Auckland was passed unanimously, and a committee formed to dispose of shares. We understand that R. J. Du'ucan, Esq., the Company's energetic Mauager proceeds to Auckland in the Lord Ashley to make some necessary arrangements for future operations. He will probably at the same time visit Sydney and Melbourne with similar objects. Captain Wilson's Lectuee.— This gentleman gave his second lecture last night to a full audience in the Odd Fellows' Hall. The lecture was to a considerable extent a repetition of the former, and the experiments which followed were equally successful. THE 68th AND 43rd REGIMENTS. — The Southern Cross of the 16th inst., slates that the 68th Regiment is expected here in the Lady Jocelyn, which had proceeded to Rangoon for the purpose of embarking it. The 43rd is to come from Colcutta, and both regiments are probably now on their way to Auckland. Dbaught Hoeses. — Tbes-s Kangaroo which arrived at Auckland on the 14th, brought 53 heavy draught horses from Sydney for the Land Transport Corps. W.R.V, Company.— The members of this corps will meet for ball practice shis afternoon at half past four.
