OPENING OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

THE GOVERNOR'S SPEECH

The Legislative Council and House of Representatives were opened on the 19th October.

About noon the Volunteer Rifle band and a guard of honor of 100 men of the corps under command of Captain Henphy, with Lieutenant Thompson and Ensign Andrews, assembled in front of the Legislative Council Chamber, to await the arrival of his Excellency Sir George Grey, X.C.8., to open the deliberations of the session. The men fell in Hue on the lawn "and funned an avenue for the passage of the Governor on his way into the chamber, where he entered as the last strains of the National Anthem by the band were reverbating over the lawn.
