Thb Tehgmpn of the 20th inst, saya :— The week opened with a sale of a balance of the horses brought over from Newcastle per Ellon Castle at prices varying from £18 to £25. They were of medium quality. Sixty head of fat cattle were sold at £16 to £24 per head, averaging £19 18s 6d. Fat sheep in wool, 37s per lb. The market is bare of fat cattle, and prices obtained are satisfactory to the sellers. _ The Times of same date says : — Prices of most descriptions of goods have an upward tendency, and prosperityis clearly perceptible in the distance. The news by the Overland Mail is not calulated to have so direct an influence on this market as the discoveries referred to, and the affinity of our gold fields is so remakable that the portions of the province already prospected and explored may be considered a vast gold-bearing country. Bacon and Hams have not yet improved in price, but parcels are taken up by the trade in anticipation of improved rates. Butter exMbits no sign of improvement At the half-yearly meeting on the 17th August of the shareholders of the Bank of Australasia, the directors' report, announcing the proposed payment in October next of a dividend and bonus equal to 14 per cent per annum, was adopted. The Chairman, Mr Childers, M.P., stated that the directors during the last half-year have continued to receive satisfactory accounts of the progress of the business of the bank.
