RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

WELLINGTON. Tuesday, 29th September, 1863. (Before H. St. Hill, Esq., R.M ) George Poole, charged with drunkenness — Fined ss. James Pindar, a soldi«r of the 14 Regt., charged by Edward Ellerm, landloid of the Albion Tavern, with stealing half a pint of brandy — Defendant was too drunk to be brought up. Thomas and John Hayes, (soldiers also of the 14th Regt.,) were charged by Mr Ellerm, with rescuing the prisoner, James Pindar, their comrade, who was charged with stealing the brandy ; and, after examination, they were remanded to the 2nd October. John Hughes was fliied 10s and costs 9s, on a charge made by Joseph Fredtnan, with having assaulted him and called him a thief and n robber ; the quarrel arose because the plaintiff refused to take defendants cheque for 108, the deft., having previansly left unpaid a small debt of 2s and 6d for repairing a watch chain. John McKinnon was summoned hy Margaret Stewart, for £3 0* 9d, for wages— Judgment was given for the defendant with costs — The plaintiff seemed uncomfortable in her situation, and had refused to take up Mrs McKinnon's dinner. A Goodard v. Charles Bull — Debt £7 18s od, for journeyman's labour — Judgment by consent for amount and costs 7s.
