DIOCESAN SYNOD.

On Tuesday last the first session of the Third Synod of the Diocese of Wellington, was held in the Provincial Council Chamber. The members attended divine service at St. Paul's Church, Thorndon, in the morning, and assembled at 2 o'clock in the Council Chamber. The following are the names of the members who were present: — ' Clekgy — Vet. Archdeacon of Kapiti, Rev A. Stock, F. Thatcher, W. Ronaldson, J. E. Herring, B. Taylor. Laity.— Messrs W. M. Bannatyne, E|. Battersbee, Beelham, E. Baker, C. D. Barraud, J. C. Crawford, G. Hart, A. Ludlam, E. Pearce H. St. Hill, R. Stokes, Captain Smith-. The Bishop of Wellington as President, hay ing declared the Synod to be duly constituted delivered an elaborate addiess, which we regret, from want of space, we are unable to give in our present issue. The address was listened to, with the roost profound attention. The following business was then proceeded with:—. The Rev. A. Stock was elected Clerical-Sec-retary, and G, Hart, Esq., Lay.Secretarj of the Synod, W. M. Baunatyne, Esq., Chairmau of Committees, aud R. Stokes, Esq., Tieasurer. Moved by Archdeacon Hudfield, seconded by I Mr St HillThat the thanks of the Synod be given to the Bishop for his address, and that he be requested to allow it to bo printed. _" Moved by Archdeacon Hadfield, seconded by Mr Ludlam — That the thanks of the Diocesan Synod be given to the Superintendent for hia kind permission to use thePiovincial Council Chamber for this meeting of the Synod; ; Mr Stokes read the report of the Standing Committee, aud gave notice he would move its adoption to-morrow. The Standing Outers were suspended to allow of the appointment of a Committee, on the motion of Mr Stokes, to repoil ou the Parochial and other reports laid on the Table, and of a Committee, on the motion of Mr Pearce, on the resolutions, on stipends of Clergy, with a view to their alteration. Several notices of motion were given, after which the Synod adjourned to the following day at 2 o'clock.
