MANAWATU.

(from a correspondent.) Manawatu, 24th Sept., 1862. His Honor the Superintendent arrived here yesterday evening, and proceeds up the coast to-day. All is peaceable here at present, Heremia, who proceeded to Bangitikei to pull down the stockade, &c, has returned to Otaki with his armed party, and expresses himself satisfied with the explanations he received from Mr Fox, relative to the existing state of affairs between the Europeans and Natives. The settlers place very little dependence in Heremia. It is supposed by some that he only wants a feasible excuse to carry out the threats I he has made with regard to Rangitikei. The feeling with regard to thu King move ment seems to be on the decline ; and it is only from those parties who are thoroughly implicated in it that we need have any feav. The natives say here that Wi Tamihana Tarapipi has slated that he is determined to stand or fall by his success at Te Meremere. The natives on this coast are busily employed fencing and, and putting in their crops. The weather has been most inclement during the last week, and a great quantity of rain has falleu. All the rivers are much swollen, aad it is with much difficulty that they can be crossed. Nothing further has been elicited relative to the death of poor Rayuer, up, to the time of closing my letter (September 24.) I am informed that the jury, have arrived at no decision yet. [The latter paragraph of the above casts much doubt on the rumour we have alluded to elsewhere. — Ed. W. L]
