Miss Williams' Benefit. — This benefit tendered by the amateurs belonging to the Wellington Colonial Defence Force, takes place to-morrow eveuingal the Ljce urn Theatre. The bill-of-fure is an exceedingly good one, including the excellent burlesque of the " Maid md the Magpie," which will be made additionally attiactire by the appearance of Mrs W. H. Foley in the character of Ninette. We hope a full house will bouor the benijiciare ou the occasion. Troops for Auckland. — We notice fiom Melbourne papers to late dates, received by the s.s. Auckland, that the Queen of the South left Melbourne ou the 4th iust., for Auckland with 158 men of the 40tli Regiment. A telegram iv the Melbourne Argus states that it is reported that the troops stationed at Adelaide are to leare for New Zealand. His Excellency Sir Charles Darling, X.C.8., the new Governor of Victoria, arrived at Melbourne on the 9ih inst., in the clipper ship Suffolk; be was to take the usual oalhs of office on the 11th inst. The Julia Farmer, from Bolivia 16th June, for Melbourne, put into Sydney on the 4th instant, for water and sails. Shipped 312 alpacas; 103 were lost un the voyage from tempestuous weather. The residue are iv good condition, and appear splendid animals. They are consigned to Messrs Clough &c Co. Wairarapa Volunteers — The following letter has been banded to us tor publicalien for general information •. — " Colonial Defence Office, "Auckland, August 31st, 1863. "Sir, — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 12th instant, and am directed to inform you in reply, that the resolutions of the meeting of the Wairarapa settlers has been laid before his Excellency the Governor, and that he bus been pleased to declare his willingness to accept the services of Volunteers in that district. I am further to state that his Honor the Superintendent is about to erect a stockade for the defence of the place, and tliat arms will be immediately supplied and other steps taken with the view to the organization of the local means of defence. " I have the honor to be " Sir, "Your most obedient servant, "J. Fisktjn. " H. Udy, Esq., " Grey town, Wairarapa."
