Matthew] Henshaw — charged with drunkenness and breaking windows, was fined 10s. J. 11. Williamson — Debt, £3 4s — Judgment by consent for amount and costs ss. Robert Cooke, a soldier of the 14th Regt., was charged by Palmer Brown, with assault and violence — -The complainant said — About half- past 7 o'clock last Friday evening, I was coming down the top of Willis-»treet near the bridge by Mr Dranßfield's fence, when two soldiers met me ; I tried to pass, first by going to right and then to the' left; the defendant put his hand on my shoulder and stopped me ; he said where was 1 gting ; I said to town .he asked if I would buy a quart ; I supposed him to mean liquor ; I said I did not drink; that instant I was thrown down into a hollow place on the roadside ; 1 made a great noise for assistance, but none came; one of the soldiers throttled me ; I struggled with them, and thought they wsre about to kill me ; after a time they left me and ran away ; my face was bruited and -my clothes covered in mud ; as soon as I could get up, I want back to Mr Fitehett, towards my home, and told him what had occurred, and warned him to be on his guard; my throat was so sore, I could scarcely speak ; and remained so for a couple of days ; I know the defendant well, and aw»ar positirely he is one of the men, and that he is the man who took me by the shoulder ; the other man I do not know ; neither of them took anything from me ; the defendant denied that he was one of the men— - The defendant was committed to gaol for oue month with hard labour.
