McLAGGAN & THOMPSON. May 15, 1863. NEW ZEALAND MAIL STEAM SERVICES. TENDERS are required by the Government of New Zealand for tbe performance of the undermentioned services. 1. A steamer to leave Melbourne within 2*4 hours after the due date of the arrival of the European Mail Contract Boat, for Port Chalmers, Otago, calling at the Bluff. To wait in Melbourne, for tbe Mail if detained, not more than four days, after its due date. 2. A steamer to leave Port Chalmers for Melbourne calling at tbe Bluff, carrying the homeward Mail ofthe Colony to Melbourne not later than 2 p.m. on the 16th of each month except February and then on the 14th. The steamers employed must be subject to the approval of the Government, and must be able to maintain an average speed of not less than eight knots an hour on each voyage. All Post Office Mails must be received on board and delivered to destination free of charge. Maila to be taken from and delivered on board of the European Mail Contract Steamer in Hobson's Bay, at the expense of tbe contractor. A free chief cabin passage must bs at the service of a clerk or agent of the Post Office, on the requisition of the Government, and proper accommodation provided for sorting letters. The tender to state tbe amount of penalty reI coverable for general non-performance of contract : a penalty of .£IOO per diem will be required for delay in departure after the time fixed on eaoh voyage, and an additional penalty of £300 for failure, after such delay in delivering the homeward Mail in Melbourne prior to the departure of the European Mail Contract Boat from that Port. The tenders may state the sum for which the whole or any portion of the forementioned Services ■ will be undertaken. Tbe Contract to commence on January Ist, 1864, aud to continue in force until tbe expiration of six calendar months', notice to be given by either of the parties to the other of his intention to determine the same ; provided always that the Contract shall not terminate before the 31st day of Deoember 1864. The tenders to be endorsed " Tenders for the New Zealand Mail Services,'' to be addressed to the Postmaster General of New Zealand, and to be posted at Dunedin not later than the 18th day of September next. A BONUS of £350 will be paid by the SubTreasurer of the Ne«v Zealand Government at Dunedin, to the master of auy steamboat which shall leave Melbourne with the New Zealand European Mails, within twenty-four hours after the arrival of tbe P. and O. Company's boat whenever the Aldinga has left witheut them, aud deliver the aame to the Postmaster at Dunedin, Otago, (landing the Southland portion at the Bluff weather permitting,) withiu nine days of leaving Melbourne. This Bonus will be paid for each of the mouths of August, September, October, November, and December, of this year, immediately after the Mail Agent (for whom a free chief cabin passage must be provided) shall have certified that the service has been duly performed. Tue Postmaster General of Melbourne, or some person appointed by him, must be satisfied that any boat offering has sufficient steam-power to perform the service required ; and in case of there being a ohoice of boats, the selection to rest with that officer. As respects the service from Otago to Melbourne : What differenoa in the amount of subsidy, if any, would be required, if the 17th or 18th days of the month were substituted, as the date for the mail steamers leaving Port Chalmers, instead of the I6iu ?
