SYDNEY.

The Neio Zealander of the 11th inst, has tha following: —

Through the courtesy of the Ward-room officers of H. M. ship Miranda, we have been put in possession of a file of the Sydney Herald, from the 28th ultimo to the 4th inst.

The Miranda has brought no troops ; and we have been informed, upou what we consider to be most reliable authority, that the Sydney Government hare made up their minds not to part with a single red coat they cat) retain. The possible contingency of a war with the United States is said te be the plea for this selfish course of action. But, it is Sidney all over; far who can forget the outcry that Sydney set up when, in our hoar of extremity, Major Strover and his Artillery were brought hither ; and who can cease to remember the noble contrast presented by Melbourne, which sent her only steam sloop, at her own cost, to aid us in our difficulty ?

We have made a few extracts from the papers before us, but they possess little of interest to New Zealand readers.

The steamer T. S. Mort, it will be seen, was abandoned on the passage from Hokianga to Sydney. She had a very fine and valuable cargo on board. We regret to learn that the New Zealand Insurance Company will lose some £3000 by this ship. The Novelty, Captaiu Philip Jones, was to clear at the Customs on the 4th. Should she have anything like the same luck a3 the Miranda, she may be immediately looked for.
