We understand that the LO.K.M. Company's new s.s. Auckland, will bring on the Sydney mails this month in lieu of the Prince Alfred, as advertised. We learn from the Home News that the Esk, 21, screw corvette, of 1169 tons, and 250 horse power, has been commissioned at Portsmouth for service on this station. Several names are current as those of officers likely to receive the command, and among the most prominent are Captains Boyce and Curtis. The Esk was originally constructed for the Admiralty by Mr Scott Russell. Since her last commission, however, she has undergone considerable repairs. Her armament consists of 16 8-inch guns, muzzle loaders, and 4 40-pounder breech loading Armstrong's — all broadside gunB — and a 110-pounder breechloading Armstrong, as a pivot forecastle gun.
