From a pressure on pur columns, several local paragraphs are unavoidably omitted. Meeting of Magistrates. — Yesterday afternoon summonses were issued by tho Superintendent requesting tho Magistrates to meet at noon to-day, in the chamber of the Legislative Council. We understand the object is to take counsel together as to the measures necessary to be adopted at this crisis. His Honor, will we presume be materially guided by tho result of the meeting, as to when and where the militia shall bo called out. English Opeka Company. — This talented corps of artistes gave their first performance last night in tho Odd Fellow's Hall to a largo and respectable audience, when they fully sustained the pie- j vious reputation they have acquired. We shall notice the performance fully in our next. Olympio Theatre — "We beg to remind our readers that to-night is fixed for the re-opening of this theatre, whefi it ia to be hoped there will be a good house*,
Robbery.— Shortly after the arrival of the Storm Bird on Thursday night, the cabin of one of the firemen employed on board, was entered by^ome person o.x persons unknown, and-a complete cl&ar,.. ance of tho blankets and wearing apparel, belong^ ing to himself and the other - occupant effected." It is supposed that, the robbery was committed by •: some one who had como from the shore ; Information has been given to the police and a ra&ard of 43 offered. It is to be hoped that tbje.perpetra'-; tor of such an impudent robbery will appre-: hended. - - ; , Death op Mn Colman,— We regret to announce the death of this gentleman, which took place on Thursday morning from the effects of a recent accident. On the arrival of the Prince Alfred, Mr Column was engaged in superintending tho transhipment of cargo from that vessel to tho hulk India, when by some accident, he fell down the hold of the latter, and sustained a severe injury of the spinal column. Dr Kebbell attended him, but he gradually sank- and died as before ; mentioned. Mr Colrnan arrived here three years ago, in command of a small steamer called the the Lyttelton. His loss is lamented by a widow and numerous family. Book Sale.— We beg to call attention to an extensive sale of books to-day by Messrs Duncan and Vennell, which comprises a large and varied collection of works in Architecture, Botany, History and Fiction. Provincial Council.— The publication of our report of last night's proceedings is unavoidably postponed to our next issue, when the debate .will be given in full.
