Wo extract the following from the Southern Gross :— Messrs. Houlder, Brothers, and Coi, will despatch the new screw steamer ' Paulet,' A 1 (just built expressly for the Intercolonial Eoyal Mail Company), for Melbourne, Sydney and the New Zealand Ports on the 28th February, ' carrying mails and passengers only. This vessel has been fitted up for the special accommodation of passengers and . presents an opportunity for reaching Australia and' New Zealand in the time occupied by the overland route via Southampton, at half the expense. — Australian Mail, February 13. The fine screw corvette Eacoon, 22, 400 horso-powev, Captain the Count Victor Gleichem, fitting in the Medway to convey his Royal Highness Prince Alfred on a special cruise, has been removed from the dock, and is now moored off the west shore, whero she is being completed for sea with all possible despatch. It is said that Prince Alfred himself selected the Eacoon for his cruise, from having admired her so much when in the Mediterranean. The Eacoon is fitted for service on the Home Station at present, and it ia rumoured at Chatham that ■ she will visit Norway, Sweden, and Denmark prior to proceeding to Australia, which 1b understood to be her ultimate destination. A picked band of twelve musicians will be attached to the Eacoon during the time she is in commisslou. — Ibid. The Electra, London to New Zealand, is reported as having been spoken in 6°N. 24° W. The Mina left Gravesend for Nelson, on the Bth Feb. The Eugene was reported off the Lizard, February 10, from New Zealand. The Aloe left Gravesend on the sth February, for Auckland. The Coldstream, Carmichaol, sailed for Otago on the Bth February, from Deal Took her final departure from Portsmouth on the 10th. The Electric, Marshall, took her departure from the Clyde for Otago, on the 31st January. On the 4th Februaiy was at Lamlash, and sailed on the 7th. The Ellen Castle, M'Lean, made a start from Gravesend for Wellington on the Ist February. The Glenfallock, from the Clyde, for New Zealand, was at Lamlash on the 4th February. The Sebaßtopol, from London, for New Zealand, was off the Needles on the 4th February. Of the foregoing vessels, several put back from stress of weather in the Channel; aB will be Been from the following reports: _£[ February 6.— The Helen R. Cooper, for New Zealand, has put back. Plymouth, February 11.— The Coldstream, Carmichael for Otago, N.Z., has put back with loss of bulwarks, rails, davit, mizen topsail yard, and other damage, having been in collision last night off St. Catherine's with the Harvest Home, Harvey, which sailed hence for Adelaide yestorday. , The departures from London for New Zealand since our last publication have been the Sebastopol for Canterbury, Ooldstream from Otago. Cooper, took her departure faom Deal for New Zealand, on the 28th January. : The Matilda Wattenbach, was reported at Calcutta from Auckland, January 4. , Tho following ships were loading at London for New Zealand, on the 13th :— Matoaka, 1092, and Prince of Wales, 924, for Otago ; Holyrood, 500, and Dona Anil* 500 for Canterbury ; Bard of Avon, 705, for Nelson and New Plymouth ; Maria, 747, for Wellington and Napier; Telegraph, 1,148, for Auckland and Napier— all of Shaw, Saville & Go's line ; Ocean Home, 596, for Otago ; Metropolis, 1,081, for Canterbury; War Spirit, 1,234, for Auckland—of Willis, Gann & Co's line. Loading at London for Wellington.— Maria, Teulon ; New Great Britain, Trader; Delaware, Baldwin.— Nome News, February 26.
