POSTAL COMMUNICATION WITH AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
Mi' Mucguire [Feb. 16] inquired of the Under-Secretary for the Colonies whether any correspondence had passed between her Majesty's Government, and the Colonial Govern- " ments of Australia and New Zealand respecting 1 a new postal sesvice between those colonies and the mother country. via Panama ; and, iJt so, whether there was any objection to . lay ; , such correspondence on the table of the House. Mr C. Fiuteseue said that there had been no correspondence which would be worth laying 1 j upon the table. The Legslature of New Zea- ' land had passed au act for the establishment of postal communication wiih this country via Panama, and the Postmaster- General of the colony was now in this country for the purpose, among- other objects, of forwarding that project But little correspondence, however, had taken place, and the Legislature of Victoria declined to be a party to the scheme.
