WELLINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.

Messrs. Or. H. Lcxford & Go. report for the week ending Friday, 24th April, 1868. • Fat Sheep,— The market has been indifferently well supplied, and prices are firm at former quotations. A very superior lot, bred by J. Grace, Esq., of Wai-nui-o-mata; in fact, the best we liave had under our notice for some time past, came in on Tuesday, and were at once taken by the trade at an outside price. A lot of about 300, from the Kawa Kawa, were sold by E. Eussell, Esq., for 20s each, upon the station. Stoke Shbep.— Store ewes are much enquired for, and there would.be no difficulty in placirig from 8000 to 5000 well-bred, clean, young ewes at a satisfactory figure to the breeder. No sales of store wethers have transpired. Fat Cattle. — A small mob of medium quality from Messrs. Welch's station, Wairar&pa, have come In, and averaged £8 per head, for home consumption; these, with some very fine beasts from Ehodeß' Hills (Allan Cameron's station), comprise the extent of our week's arrival of fat stock. Store Cattle. — Great quantities' p of thii clasß.of cattle have arrived during the week, principally from the run» on the West Coast and are difficult of sale. The bulk has been mostly shipped by the breeders themselves, although some portion has changed hands, at £5 per head - for shipment to Otago ; the remainder ore still unsold.' Upon the whole we report less animation in the Export Stock Market during the past week than the favorable reports from the South would have led one to expect, fully bearing out our previous remarks upon the probable effeotß high commissions and heavy charges would be likely to bring about While so much monopoly exists, it would be vain to expect any reduction in that quarter ; cut we are pleased to find that in another direction, a better example nas been set, and that the Bank of New South Wales through whom the bulk of the Southern monetary arrangements has been effected, and to whom so much iB due for the courtesy and liberality which has characterised ita dealings, has lowered the rate of discount on short Bills to 7 per cent, ■ and as most drafts on account of cattle are at 80 or 60 days, the shippers will reap the benefit Houses.— A lot of horses imported from the South by Mr J. H. Homer, were sold by him by public auction on Monday last, and as they were not first-class; they realised low figures. A very nice mare was bought by Mr Lunn ox £28 ; the rest fetched from £1 to £24 each. - G. H. Loxfohd & Co.
